The Takoma Park Neighborhood Library will celebrate its 100th birthday this November 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The program lineup includes poet, educator and literary activist E. Ethelbert Miller, a jazzy musical performance by a local Takoma Park guitar duo and remarks from the library‘s administration and city government. The Friends are also launching two contests: a teen essay contest — “If you were in charge, how would you run the library?” and an art contest for all ages. Winning art will be reproduced on note cards as part of a Friends of the Takoma Park Library fundraiser just in time for the holidays. And, of course, no birthday celebration is complete without refreshments — especially birthday cake!

During the weeks from November 10 to December 17, the Branch will have special programs for all age groups: from historical talks by author and historian Diana Kohn and architectural historian Pamela Scott to readings by children’s authors Carolivia Herron and Laura Krause Melmed, to name just a few. Please check out the calendar section of their webpage to see a full listing of events. We invite all of our neighbors, not just from Takoma Park but from across the city, to come enjoy and celebrate their library!
